HER Report no. 5619

Abstract/Summary

Report on a second programme of systematic field walking, conducted as part of the community history project to investigate the medieval remains of Sutterby. This phase of field walking targeted the field to the south of the village known as Home Field, and again recovered large quantities of medieval and early post-medieval pottery, along with a further small quantity of Anglo-Saxon pottery. The pottery distribution would suggest that the core of the early settlement was to the southern half of the site, with later activity expanding the settlement to the north. The field walking also recovered a further quantity of prehistoric flints, distributed in a general spread across the site.
