Abstract/Summary
Report on an earth resistance survey and the excavation of two trial trenches, dug as part of a community archaeological investigation of a field in the west of Ancaster, to the east of Pottergate Road. The trenches were targeted to investigate a number of geophysical anomalies recorded by the prior earth resistance survey, but resolved all of the investigated examples as near-surface geological variation or recent made-ground deposits, with no archaeological features or deposits identified. An assemblage of redeposited Roman pottery and tile was recovered, however, along with two sherds of redeposited medieval pottery.
