Full Description

Two linear features were identified in September 2013, during a magnetometry survey, conducted to inform the proposed construction of new fishing lakes on land at Mill Road, Addlethorpe. The features appeared as weak magnetic anomalies, running on a different alignment to that of the modern field pattern. They were interpreted as former ditched features of an unknown date, and were thought to comprise part of an earlier water management system. {1}{2} Part of the southernmost linear feature was excavated in November 2013, during suqsequent trial trenching on the site. The exact date of this feature is unknown, though it is depicted on maps from at least 1889, and was thought to be post-medieval in origin. It was found to have been backfilled with dumped material of modern origin. {3}{4}
