Full Description
207 Eastgate is one of a pair of mid 19th century houses with later 19th century detached stables and coach house, on the outskirts of Louth. The buildings were assessed by English Heritage in May 2013, as part of the Louth Defined Area Survey. It was decided that the criteria for listing was not met in this instance, as later 19th century additions have compromised the classical integrity of the original design for the house. 207 Eastgate is of two storeys with semi-basement or lower ground floor, the south elevation of three bays, the central bay and outer panels slightly advanced, and with deep bracketed eaves and a storey band that continue just around the corner of the building to the west. The building shares with 209 Eastgate a south, front range with shallow pitched roof, to either end of which to the north are wings, the inner slopes extended down to create valleys either side of a central pitched roof between the two houses. The valley roof in 207 is concealed behind a parapet to the north elevation. There are tall chimney stacks to either end of the front range, with stacks to each roof of the side wings to the rear, as well as stacks to the ridge of the central roof. To the north of the house is a courtyard on two sides of which are a coach house and stables, with loft and possibly accommodation above. The roofs are shallow pitched and hipped, and there is a chimney above the coach house section. This is to the west of the yard and has arched double doors to the centre of the east elevation to the south of which is a door set in chamfered doorway under a segmental arch. {1}{2}
