Full Description
Archaeological evaluation and subsequent monitoring of groundworks on land to the rear of 4 to 8 St Mary's Hill, Stamford was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology in 2006. Within Trench a section of the medieval bastion was found. In Trench 2 and during the archaeological monitoring, part of the medieval town walls were revealed. It is known that Stamford constructed a stone curtain wall in the 14th century and so these structures may originate from this date. {1}{2}
