Description

A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted on land to the rear of 4-8 St Mary's Hill, Stamford, during groundworks for a building extension. A 7m stretch of the south face of the Medieval town wall was encountered, as was a similar length of the south wall of the adjacent bastion. Stone for stone recording of both wall elevations was undertaken. The investigation also encountered the foundations of a post-Medieval boundary wall known to follow the route of the former town wall. {1}{2}
