Full Description

Earthworks of medieval ridge and furrow, at Mill Hill, Burgh le Marsh. Identified on aerial photography examined as part of the National Mapping Programme. {1} Modern agricultural activity and development had removed all the earthworks previously identified in the north-western field at some point in the later 20th century. The remains in the south-eastern field survived as extant earthworks until early 2025, at which point they were also ploughed flat. Recent lidar data of this area was analysed in mid 2025, to provide a more detailed record of the former earthworks here, prior to the proposed construction of a new agricultural building. The lidar data showed the previously surviving earthworks on a number of different orientations across the field, with several associated banks and ditches also having been present. {2}{3}{4}
