Full Description

An archaeological excavation was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Services in September to November 2010 on land at Hall Lane, Stickney prior to residential development. Area 1 revealed a series of pits, linear features and ditches. This period showed a major change in land use as the excavation revealed a multi-ditch feature. Late medieval to post medieval pottery including Toynton/Bolingbroke ware, Lincoln Kiln type and Cistercian ware, tile, a large quantity of handmade brick and brick wasters, possibly indicating brick-making on the site and a large assemblage (thirty five percent of Area 1) of animal bone was revealed in association with the features. A tanged punch for metal-working, a slate pencil stub dating from the late 16th to 20th century and a stone hone was also found within the multi-ditch feature. {1}{2}
