Full Description

An archaeological excavation was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Services in September to November 2010 on land at Hall Lane, Stickney prior to residential development. Area 1 revealed a series of late Saxon to early medieval pits, some of which intercut each other and some were associated with other features including a linear feature and a post hole. Many of the pits contained late Saxon pottery including shelly ware, glazed Stamford ware and Lincoln Kiln Type pottery. One pit contained a large assemblage of animal bone. The lienar contained late Saxon pottery and a small amount of fired clay, or possibly daub. A small amount of residual middle Saxon pottery was retrieved from the topsoil and from within the pits. {1}{2}
