Full Description

Tattershall Lodge was the subject of a programme of historic building recording, conducted in August 2008, to inform its proposed conversion to use as a restaurant. The building is thought to date from the late 18th century, and is constructed in the typical Georgian style for a high quality dwelling house, although it was thought possible that it may incorporate fragments from an earlier structure on this site. It is of two storeys and laid out to an L-shaped plan form, and is built of red brick, now largely obscured by render, and features pitched roofs of slate. The building had been in use as a café since at least 1970. Some damage to the structure was caused by a kitchen fire in the 1990s, and whilst this was repaired and a new kitchen installed, the use as a café ceased a few years later. {1} Tattershall Lodge was assessed for listing by Historic England in April 2023, after plans for its proposed conversion and alteration were submitted. The building was constructed in the late 18th century as a fashionable dwelling house, though may contain traces of earlier structures on the site. It has been subject to some significant alterations at various points in the 20th century, particularly to the interior. It was decided that the structure did not meet the criteria for listing; whilst the building possessed strong local interest and retained some interesting historic fabric, it was felt that the substantial alterations had eroded the survival and legibility of the significant features of the structure overall. {2}{3}
