Full Description

During a magnetometry survey undertaken on the Southam Witham Quarry, Phase X, in March 2010, a series of linear and circular anomalies were interpreted as possible former enclosures/ditches or field systems and possible silted pits respectively. {1}{2} Subsequent trial trenching conducted in August 2010 found no evidence for an L-shaped section of field boundary or enclosure identified by the geophysical survey. A ditch on the same northeast-southwest alignment, also previously identified, was located approx. 300m further east, however. A series of pits and a curvilinear ditch containing mid to late Iron Age pottery and cattle bone were also encountered to the south of these features. {3}
