Description

Twenty trial trenches were excavated on land at South Witham Quarry to inform a proposed quarry expansion. A curvilinear ditch was encountered matching an anomaly interpreted as a ring ditch in an earlier programme of geophysical survey (see ELI10672). A ditch and a number of pits of possible Iron Age data and an undated ditch were also encountered. {1} No evidence was found during this investigation for the western ditches of the possible rectilinear field system identified in the geophysical survey.
