Full Description

Grade II listed stable block, dating from about 1820. It is red brick and has a corrugated roof. For the full description of this listed building please refer to the National Heritage List for England. {1} The stable block was the subject of a historic building survey by Allen Archaeology in 2022 prior to its conversion for residential use. The building was a two storey northeast to southwest aligned stable and coach house of handmade red brick in Flemish Bond, under a pitched gabled roof. The southeast elevation has three brick arched doorways, one single door at each end of the elevation, and a large double door coach opening in the centre, flanked by window openings. Both the northeast and southwest gables have former loft openings to the first floor granary. This building is suggested to have been constructed in the late 18th century, at the same time as the neighbouring Adderley House, with which it shares stylistic elements and construction materials. A later single storey lean-to brick extension formerly abutted the southwest end of the northwest elevation, though this had been demolished prior to the survey. It had a single chimney in the centre of the pitch, and may have functioned as a tack room. A straight join connected this extension to the main building. {2}{3}
