Full Description

Mid 18th century red brick cottage with pantile roof. For the full description and the former legal address of this formerly listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} Cosy Cottage had been substantially refurbished in the 19th century and again in the late 20th century, with the walls being rebuilt and the roof structure replaced. The house did not retain a significant proportion of its original fabric and detail, and was consequently removed from the National Heritage List for England in 2016. External alterations included the addition of porches, the insertion of modern sash windows and the replacement of the roof and chimney. The original fireplaces no longer survive in their original form. There is much about this building which is of local historical significance, however, in particular its external appearance, which remains that of a simple 18th century cottage with its lobby entrance plan-form, as well as some surviving joists, doors and staircase. It is also of considerable local interest as probably the oldest dwelling in the settlement, and for the place it occupies within the historic landscape. {2}{3}
