Full Description
A shop and offices over the remains of the vaulted undercroft to the Dominican Friary. The remains date from the 14th century and the shop and offices date from the 17th century which underwent alterations in about 1900 and in the 20th century. The building was constructed of stone with red brick stone and stucco dressings and has a slate roof. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}
A late 19th century or early 20th century building. The building is a rectangular building of three storeys built in red brick with stone, and with stone and stucco dressings. The ground floor of the building has rare and substantial survival of medieval fabric to the ground floor and north wall, despite later rebuilding. This medieval fabric is part of the 14th century remains of the Dominican Friary (PRN10031) and is associated with further remains of the Dominican Friary in Blackfriars Arts Centre (PRN14529). The west elevation has a five crow stepped gable, and the top of the gable is crowned with a partially eroded pinnacle of a carving, a heraldic beast holding a cartouche, that is probably another early fragment of medieval masonry. The ground floor is currently (2011) used as a picture framer's shop and workshop, while the upper floors house a Club. {2}
