Summary

18th century pottery and a fragment of clay pipe were recovered during an archaeological evaluation. A subsequent watching brief revealed evidence of post-medieval mining.

Full Description

PRN 71046 An archaeological evaluation undertaken in June 2008 revealed post medieval artefacts including a fragment of 17th century clay pipe and 18th century pottery. {1}{2} A subsequent watching brief, undertaken during September to December 2008, revealed three shafts interpreted as ventilation shafts for adit mines exploiting the Northamptonshire Ironstone, which underlies Lincolnshire Limestone in this area. {3}{4}
