Full Description
An early 19th century Girls National School, also known as St George's School, is known to have existed on this site and is shown on 19th century maps until at least 1886. Two stone walls relating to the school buildings were uncovered during trial trenching in October 2005. {1}{2}
The building is shown as a school on the 1901 OS map of Stamford. {3}
White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the Girls' National School was founded in 1805. {4}
The site is now occupied by modern housing.
