Full Description

PRN 64639 House with attached office and warehouse, now all offices. c.1830 with additions c.1880 and in the 20th century. Built in Yellow Ewerby buck with ashlar and terracotta dressings. Slate roofs. Two storeys. Former house has shallow pitch slate roof with deeply overhanging eaves and a chamfered plinth. Five bay front, with projecting central three storey tower, central round headed doorway with double six panel doors and fanlight with terracotta decorated jambs, arch and keystone. To the left, the c.1830 wing, 2 bay with each bay projecting slightly, single french windows. Former nursery wing c.1830 to north, originally eight bays now reduced to five bays, articulated by brick pilasters with ashlar capitals and entablature parapet above. Former seed warehouse attached to south, now offices. Two storey, thirteen bay with three bay gabled addition beyond. Each bay is defined by plain brick pilaster strips. This site was laid out as a nursery and seedmans for John Sharp c.1830, it was greatly enlarged c1880 for Charles Sharp who specialised in dealing in seeds.
