Description

SLEAFORD TF 04 NE BOSTON ROAD 1/201 The Pines and attached former Warehouse and offices II House with attached office and warehouse, now all offices. c1830 with additions c1880 and C20. Yellow Ewerby buck with ashlar and terracotta dressings. Slate roofs. 2 storey. Former house has shallow pitch slate roof with deeply overhanging eaves. Chamfered plinth. 5 bay front, with projecting central 3 storey tower, central round headed doorway with double 6 panel doors and fanlight with terracotta decorated jambs, arch and keystone. Flanking pairs of Doric pilasters entablature, upper floors has quoins, with a plain sash in pedimented surround, with small circular window above. Bracketed eaves and pyramidal roof topped by ornate iron finial. To the left, the c1830 wing, 2 bay with each bay projecting slightly, single french windows, and above single glazing bar sashes. To the right single french window with margin light glazing bar sashes above and between an external stack. Former nursery wing c1830 to north, originally 8 bays now reduced to 5 bays, articulated by brick pilasters with ashlar capitals and entablature parapet above. The ground floor altered by a single storey C20 addition. Above the former centre bay has a stone plaque, the remaining 4 bays have margin light windows. To the north a projecting wing with a 2 bay east front blank on the ground floor with 2 similar windows above. This wing has a 5 bay street front. the 3 bays to the left each have a single glazing bar window, then a doorway across both right bays, with an ashlar Doric column door surround and a 6 panel door with overlight. Above 3 glazing bar windows to the right and an inserted C20 plate glass window to the left. Former seed warehouse attached to south, now offices. 2 storey, 13 bay with 3 bay gabled addition beyond. Each bay is defined by plain brick pilaster strips. Tall margin light windows on the ground floor with smaller similar windows above. The slightly projecting 3 bay addition has 3 round headed windows in the large pediment. The south front has a single projecting wooden sash hoist at first floor level. Interior of house has panelled doors and hardwood staircase with turned balusters. The main reception room to south has ornate plaster cornice and frieze and roundel. Grey marble fine surround with central roundel, flanked by arched recesses with fruit and garland decoration to the spandrels and keystones with initials "CS" for Charles Sharp. This site was laid out as a nursery and seedmans for John Sharp c1830, it was greatly enlarged c1880 for Charles Sharp who specialised in dealing in seeds. Listing NGR: TF0705945590
