Full Description

Parish church constructed in the 12th century, with 13th to 14th century alterations. The spire was restored in 1872. Built of coursed limestone rubble and ashlar, with lead and Collyweston slate roofs. West tower with broach spire, nave, chancel, north and south aisles, south porch. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} The church and its incumbents are discussed by Trollope. {2} The memorials in the church include a medieval effigy of an armoured knight and his lady thought to be Lambert de Trekingham, a Justice of Court of Common Pleas during the reigns of Edward I and II, and his wife Spayne. There are also three stone coffins within the church which are thought to date to the 13th century. {2}{3} A church dedicated to St Peter is mentioned in the Domesday Book. {4} There are two stone grave markers with a 12th-13th century cross pattee motif within the church, one within the porch wall and one loose in the north aisle. {7}
