Full Description
Potential enclosure of unknown date, seen on the National Mapping Programme. The enclosure can be seen on satellite imagery as a possible teardrop-shape with the narrowest point facing soutwest, where the enclosure appears to abut or join a southwest-northeast aligned ditch, which may itself form the southeastern boundary of the enclosure. {1}{2}
During a geophysical survey in 2011, the northeastern half of the possible enclosure was encountered as a weak curvilinear anomaly. The western half was not clearly identified. The adjoining ditch was also encountered during the survey as a slightly curvilinear anomaly which appeared to continue for at least another 80m to the southwest. {3}
A subsequent programme of trial trenching in February-March 2012 also encountered the eastern ditch, but did not identify any archaeological features corresponding with the western return of the possible enclosure. No datable finds were recovered from this feature. {4}{5}
