Grammar school built in 1881 from Farlesthorpe brick with red polychromatic bands and ashlar dressings. It has a decorative tiled roof and a wooden shingled bellcote. Originally founded in the mid 16th century, the school moved to the current site in 1881. By 1884 the school had 65 pupils. {3}
White's 1856 Trade Directory states that the grammar school was founded by Francis Spanning in 1565. At the time the schoolmaster had a 'good house, with a large garden', and two school rooms for teaching. {4}
