Full Description
Former Baptist Chapel at Orchard Street, depicted on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map. The building served as a chapel until it was converted into a mosque at some point in the late 20th century. {1}{2}{3}
The building was constructed in 1888, to serve as a chapel and meeting room for a local Baptist congregation. It was originally owned by W. Blinkhorn of nearby 5 Rauceby Terrace. It is a single-storey structure built of red brick, with decorative stepped bands of yellow brick, and features a pitched slate roof. A vestry was added in 1926. Christian use of the building had stopped at some point prior to 1981, when the building was converted for use as a mosque. {4}{5}
