Full Description

Two sherds of 2nd to 3rd century Roman greyware pottery were found in this location in January 2002, during field walking on land at Wygate Park, Spalding. It is probable that the sherd was brought to the surface during cleaning and re-cutting of the adjacent dyke; any Roman remains in this area are thought to be buried under layers of alluvial silt. {1}{2} Two further sherds of redeposited Roman pottery were recovered in August 2012, during an excavation on land at Westerly Way, Wygate Park, Spalding. The sherds were recovered from the fill of one of the complex of ring ditches, found to the immediate east (see PRN 23943). {3}{4}
