Full Description

Former Friends Meeting House on the High Street at Sturton by Stow. The building is of red brick, and features a lozenge-shaped tablet on the southern gable, which carries an inscription of 'JB 1861'. This is believed to signify Joseph Burtt, who gave the land for the building, along with a detached burial ground to the rear of the meeting house (see MLI87256). Numbers attending the meeting house declined rapidly, and the building passed to Methodist use in 1895. The building was sold in about 1960, when it was largely rebuilt as a private house. {1}{2}{3}{4}
