Full Description

Former coaching inn, called the 'George Inn'. It was built in the late 18th century of brick with a slate roof. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} This building was demolished at some time prior to 1987. There is now (2011) a new block of flats on the site. {2} The site of The George Inn, which formerly comprised 2 George Street and 30 Gospelgate, was visited by English Heritage in May 2013, as part of the Louth Defined Area Survey. As the building has been demolished, and no historic fabric survives, the decision was made to remove the building from the National Heritage List for England. It was formerly described as being late 18th century, of 3 storeys in painted brick, with a slate roof and dentilled eaves cornice. The windows were 4-3-light hung sash windows with glazing bars, stucco heads and keystones. It had a central doorway of 6 panel double doors, with radiating fanlight and wide pilasters, side lights and cornice. {3}{4}
