Full Description

Former coaching inn at Gospelgate, called the 'George Inn'. It dates from the late 18th century, and was built of painted brick. It is of three storeys and features a slate roof with dentilled eaves. It has four three-light hung sash windows with glazing bars, stucco heads and keystones. The central doorway has six-panel double doors with a radiating fanlight and wide pilasters, side lights and cornice. There is now (2012) a new block of flats on the site. {3} The site of The George Inn, which formerly comprised 2 George Street and 30 Gospelgate, was visited by English Heritage in May 2013, as part of the Louth Defined Area Survey. As the building has been demolished, and no historic fabric survives, the decision was made to remove the building from the National Heritage List for England. {4}{5}
