Full Description
PRN 45703
A fluxgate gradiometer survey was carried out on the site of a proposed sand and gravel quarry at Tattershall Thorpe. The survey tentatively identified a number of linear and curvilinear anomalies, none of which appear to respect modern boundaries. The survey also identified an number of discrete, localised anomalies (some grouped) which may reflect pits. {1}
During trial trenching a number of features of possible later prehistoric date were encountered. These include several ditches, one of which contained a late Neolithic - early Bronze Age flint, which appear to form a possible group of field boundaries or enclosures. A possible ring ditch was also uncovered although with a diameter of approximately 32-33m it is probably too large for a house and there were no post holes associated with it, although these may have been ploughed out. A curved gully and a post hole to the east of the site may represent a potential round house with a diameter of approximately 10-11m. A single pit may also be of prehistoric date. {2}{3}
