In 1982 the Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology carried out an excavation off Water Lane. A late medieval tile kiln and foundations to a building were found. This is in the area next to 24 Water Lane, and is now Plot 91. No trace of the chapel of St Leonard or its graveyard were found. {1}
A trial trench evaluation carried out in January 2009, on land immediately to the west of the kiln site, recovered a small assemblage of roof tile including a possible waster, which may have derived from the tile kiln. {2}{3}
