An archaeological watching brief was conducted during the excavation of geotechnical pits on land at the former Anchor Street Works, Anchor Street, Lincoln. The watching brief required the monitoring of 24 machine-excavated geotechnical trial pits (nominally 2m long and 0.60m wide). In Trial Pit 16, a light to mid brown sand with occasional limestone inclusions was revealed from which a single sherd of pottery dating to the 13th to 15th century and a roof tile fragment dating to the mid-12th to mid 13th were recovered. Although not important in themselves, the finds (in conjunction with others recovered during this and previous investigations) indicate Medieval activity on or immediately adjacent to the site {1} {2}
