Full Description
A magnetometry survey was undertaken (as part of an overall desk top assessment) on land at Kirton House, Kirton to identify possible archaeological remains in the area to help determine the archaeological implications of proposed development at the site. Survey indicated that the area was perhaps formerly sub-divided into narrow strips as indicated by four north to south ditch-like anomalies. Several pit-like magnetic responses were also identified. These anomalies may relate to agricultural activities. {1}
Only one of these anomalies was identified during subsequent trial trenching on the site in November 2007. The feature was identified as a 19th-20th century boundary ditch. {2}{3}
