Full Description

The site of the deserted settlement of Little Stapleford or Parva Stapleford lies approximately one mile of St Helen's church in Brant Broughton, probably to the north west. It is mentioned in the Feudal Aids. Early in the thirteenth century part of the endowment of the church and vicarage at Brant Broughton included land in the fields of Parva Stapleford. In 1338-39 the Bishop of Lincoln gtanted a commission to Ralf, Rector of 'Brendebroughton' to remove the wood and stones of a chapel (see 63043) in that parish in a place called Parva Stapleford, a mile or so distant from the church, and to use them for the fabric of the church or bell tower (St Helen's church - 63022). The suggested site of the settlement is surrounded by ridge and furrow remains (see 63094). {1}{2}{3}
