Full Description

Two possible archaeological features were identified in this location in July 2003, during magnetometry survey of land at Caenby Corner. The features were recorded as discrete magnetic anomalies, possibly representing the remains of former enclosures or areas of burning. {1} Subsequent trial trenching in this area resolved one of the magnetic anomalies as being a dump of clearly modern material, but confirmed the other anomaly as being a thin deposit of burnt material of unknown, though likely archaeological origin. The investigation also recorded the remains of a probable post hole of unknown date, cutting into the natural geology near to the deposit of burnt material. {2}{3}
