Full Description

PRN 23840 Archaeological evaluation (trial trenching) on land at Woolram Wygate, Spalding identified a large medieval refuse pit and associated post hole, towards the eastern end of the site. Although direct settlement features or structures were not found, environmental analysis of the pit fills indicates that domestic settlement was located in the immediate vicinity. {1}{2} Archaeological excavation in this area revealed a series of ditches, gullies and dylings of medieval date, indicating agricultural land use during this period. These features had been recut repeatedly, suggesting continued use and maintence over a long period. {3}{4}
