Full Description

PRN 36439 During excavation work as part of the Fenland Management Project, an undated ring ditch was recorded on the northern levee of the Bourne/Morton Roman branch canal (PRN 33259), measuring 7m in diameter. No artefacts or other evidence were found to indicate date or function, and a phosphate survey yielded no anomalous readings and no evidence of function. The ring ditch truncated the uppermost silt fills of the earliest phase of the canal and a Roman ditch aligned parallel with the canal (PRN 36438). The ring ditch may be a drainage gully around a stack (stack stand), of possible Roman or medieval date.{1}
