Description

An archaeological excavation was carried out as part of the Fenland Management Project. A 2m wide strip of topsoil was removed over the approximate location of the canal and levees. Part of a circular ditch was encountered on the northern levee and an additional circa 110m squared of topsoil was stripped to reveal the full extent of the feature and a nine metre extent of the ditch aligned parallel to the canal. The original profile of the canal was determined by augering across the channel through the first step in 0.5m spaced intervals.{1}
