Full Description
PRN 62789
Both arcades seem to date from about 1300. Three bays, octagonal piers, double-chamfered arches. Round seats to the south arcade piers. The north responds are keeled, the south piers with some nailhead. The Perpendicular twoer is built into the nave, which makes it a thin piece. Open parapet and pinnacles. The north aisle west window is a lancet, the north doorway is single-chamfered with a segmental arch, and both are probably earlier than the arcade. The nicest feature of the church is the alterations and additions made by General Manners in 1812. He rebuilt the chancel and porch. His coat of arms is over the porch entrance, made of Coade stone and signed Coade and Sealey, 1813. He also also gave to the nave and chancel their surprisingly plaster rib-vaults.{1}
St Mary's was constructed in c.1300 and c15 remodelled in 1812 for George Mannors of Bloxholme Hall from Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar. It has a plain tile roof with 19th century ashlar coped gables with kneelers. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.{2}{3}{4}
The church is depicted on an aerial photograph.{5}
