Full Description

PRN 13646 During trial trenching in 2002, post medieval features were recorded, including; a possible double ditch, a number of pits, a brick drain and a series of demolition/dumped deposits. Demolition deposits indicate there was a brick building in the vicinity, although no structural remains were identified. Post-medieval finds include a quantity of pottery, both locally produced and imported from elsewhere in the country and a single example imported from kilns in Germany. Brick and tile were also retrieved along with clay pipes and a small quantity of industrial residues which may indicate ironworking in the vicinity {1}{2} Archaeological excavation was undertaken on the same plot of land in April 2004. The excavation tried accurately date and phase the settlement evidence on the site and to place it into a context of general development of settlement in the area. The excavation identified a number of post-medieval features, including; refuse pits, brick-walls, post-holes (possibly associated with the demolition of a medieval building) and a brick-built soakaway {3} {4}
