Full Description
PRN 43936
During a watching brief, several features relating to farming and farmyard activity were recorded. Brick and sandstone building foundations, a well and a cess pit were uncovered, along with a series of gullies and ditches thought to relate to land-use. A north-east/south-west ditch and gully are thought to be part of the same feature, a possible field boundary, with a 1m gap between the ditch and the gully forming an entrance. Other gullies and ditches are thought to have sub-divided the site. At least one of the buildings is thought to have survived until circa 1960 and is shown on an Ordnance Survey map of 1891. The two farm labourers' cottages (NGR TF3622 7675) are known to have survived until circa 1990. A pebble surface was difficult to interpret, but may have been a road surface, an external yard, or an internal floor, probably in a barn.{1}{2}
Unnamed farmstead (Ketsby House), South Ormsby cum Ketsby. Redeveloped 19th century farmstead. Regular courtyard of U plan. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. Isolated location. Large modern sheds are located on the site. {3}
