Full Description
PRN 61420
A geophysical survey carried out on site identified several anomalies, prompting further work. {3}{4}
During trial trenching, several undated features were recorded. Three postholes lay adjacent to a burnt area, possibly indicating industrial activity. The presence of ironstone in the deposit may be related to this activity, but the type of activity is unknown. A north/south aligned ditch recorded in trenches 6 and 7 is thought to be a field boundary, indicating a different pattern of land parcelling in the past. Part of a dog skeleton was found in the fill, along with amphibian and fish bone (indicating a marshy or aquatic environment), and some hammerscale (further evidence for industrial activity). A further ditch, initially thought to be a field boundary, corresponds to an elongated anomaly detected by geophysical survey on site, and may be a large pit. Other undated features of unknown function were found across the site. {1}{2}
