Full Description

PRN 13550 During a watching brief, a sherd of Stamford ware and four fragments of fired clay were recorded in a silt deposit, dating the deposit to the late 11th/mid-12th century. This deposit may have filled an unobserved pit or ditch. A rubbish pit contained domestic fire and food debris, and a large concentration of marine/estuarine shells, thought to be the discard from a small dredged catch. A thin but extensive spread of peat was recorded in the south-eastern part of the site.{1}{2} During a watching brief at TF2230 3723 a single sherd of 12th century Stamford ware pottery was recovered.{3}{4}
