Full Description
PRN 35289
A group of pits, postholes and a disturbed brick structure were exposed during an archaeological evaluation in early 2000. The features contained pottery and tile dating to the mid 16th to late 18th century. The brick structure was interpreted as the remains of a brick floor, bonded with clay. The feature had been severley truncated by later robbing. The original purpose of the structure was not determined, but its crude construction and lack of substantial walls was seen to imply a design of low status. A large quarry or clay-extraction pit was recorded nearby (PRN 35286). A group of pits and a gully found towards the west of the development site contained pottery and tile dating to the mid-17th to mid-18th century. {1}{2}{3}
