Description

An evaluation comprising twelve trial trenches covering an area of approximately 1.6km east - west and 0.7km north - south. Trench locations followed the results of a preceding geophysical survey. Four trenches were excavated in the north of the area, exposing a number of post - Medieval features. These included a large quarry pit, a brick structure and postholes/pits. The other trenches were excavated in the south of the evaluation area, revealing a dense cluster of features dated to the Romano-British period. Trenches were between 10 and 40 m long and 2.5 m wide. {1} {2} {3}
