Full Description

All Saints church in North Hykeham was built in 1858 by Michael Drury, with a nave, chancel, south aisle and south west tower, in late thirteenth century style. {1} The medieval church may have been on this site. [Note - this is incorrect - see below.] The church was dilapidated some years before 1856, but the burial ground continued to be used. {2} For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {3} The current church replaced the medieval one which was sited near Meadow Lane (see PRN 61166). The medieval church had become dilapidated by the 18th century and the last part of its structure was pulled down in 1780, although the burial ground continued in use until the mid 19th century. Before the current church was built to replace it, the congregation had to walk to the church at South Hykeham in all weathers to attend services (although a room at the Harrows pub appears to have been used sometimes). After appeals from the Bishop and much fundraising, the current church was built on land which had previously been a field. {4}{5} A memorial plaque and stained glass windows in the Church have been dedicated to the fallen of the First World War. {6}
