Full Description

60388 A war memorial in St Helen's churchyard incorporates a re-faced medieval cross base, believed not to be in-situ. {1}{2} Brant Broughton's First World War memorial is formed of Clipham stone and is situated to the south side of St Helen's churchyard. The memorial is surmounted by a battlemented gabled canopy containing a crucifixion on the north side and Madonna and Child on the south. Below this is an octagonal shaft of fourteen and a half feet (four metres). The base was formerly part of the font until renovations between 1877 and 1919. It has been speculated the base was originally part of a medieval churchyard cross. {3}
