Full Description

60325 (now incorporates PRN 60324) In a field to the south of Heckington was a mound, which was known as Butts Hill. The name suggests that it may have been used as an archery butt. The mound was levelled in 1815, and fragments of human bones, pottery and spearheads were found. It is suggested that the mound may have been a Bronze Age or an Anglo-Saxon round barrow. There is an Anglo-Saxon cemetery nearby (see PRN 60866). {1}{2}{3}{4} When the site was visited in 1963 there was a barely discernable, non-surveyable rise in the ground level at the published site. {2}
