Full Description

THE SETTLEMENT OF HOLTON SHOWS LITTLE SIGN OF DECLINE THAT CAN BE DISENTANGLED FROM THAT OF BECKERING. SOME ENGROSSEMENT WAS REPORTED IN 1607; THERE WAS A SHARP DROP IN POPULATION IN THE MID AND LATER SEVENTEENTH CENTURY, BUT BY THE EARLY EIGHTEENTH CENTURY THE NUMBER OF HOUSEHOLDS WAS CLOSE TO OR ABOVE THAT OF THE MID SIXTEENTH CENTURY; A FURTHER DECLINE IN THE LATER EIGHTEENTH CENTURY, HOWEVER, PERHAPS RESULTED FROM ENCLOSURE. FINDS INCLUDE SIXTEENTH-EIGHTEENTH CENTURY POTTERY, INCLUDING SLIPWARE AND SEVENTEENTH-EIGHTEENTH CENTURY CLAY PIPE. {1}{2}{3}{4}
