The former settlement of Holme is probably in this area. It is referred to in 1086 with Sudbrooke, and in the Nimina Villarum in 1316, but is otherwise subsumed in the taxation returns for Sudbrooke. It seems that the village had disappeared by the 17th century. The church was said to be in a state of 'very great decay' in 1603. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}{7} The majority of Holme was monastic land, which was acquired by the Grantham family after the Dissolution. The land was sold to Christopher Beresford in 1629, who is said to have moved his family into a sizeable property near the village, named as 'Sudbrooke Holme', although the exact location of this house is unknown. It may have been in the same location as the late 18th century country house, built by Richard Ellison, and demolished in c.1930 (see PRN 56489). The estate of Sudbrooke Holme was acquired by the Ellisons in 1759 and turned by them, and latterly the Sibthorpes, into an emparked grand residence (see PRN53073). {8}
