PRN 51218 St. George's Chapel, Goltho is of brick, built in c.1640 with an 18th century chancel. It is disused and neglected. {1}{2} In 1975 the area around the church was unploughed and left waste. The brick church, with monuments inside was in a ruinous state. The medieval tomb slabs were cleaned and recorded by Andrew White in 1976. {3} Thomas Grantham repaired or rebuilt Goltho Church while high sheriff in 1638 to 1639. {4} St. George's church was declared redundant in 1976 and invested in the redundant churches fund. It has a nave and chancel with a west bellcote; of brick with moulded brick windows. Guy Beresford has pointed out that the bonding is comparable with Tattershall Castle and the chancel of Bardney Church, but that the joints of the roof timbers preclude a date before 1500. The Grantham family bought the Goltho estate in 1530 and may well have rebuilt the church at about this time. The nave windows have four-centred arches with dripmoulds and recessed spandrels. The chancel is early 18th century in date, also of brick, formerly with an oval east window. The north and south windows have pointed heads. The broad bellcote, of glazed brick, is Victorian. Inside, there is a stately reredos of c.1700 with a big segmental pediment; two halves of perpendicular bench ends with poppy heads; a communion rail with dumb-bell balustraers; a Georgian two-decker pulpit; and box pews. The west door is probably contemporary with the nave and has its original ironwork. A coffin lid dated 1507 and with an incised cross at the top end is inset in the floor. {5}
