Description

GOLTHO GOLTHO ROAD TF 17 NW (east side) 2/35 Church of St. George 30.11.66 II* Parish church, now redundant. c.1640, early C18, late C19. Red brick. Plain tiled roofs with tile coped west gable and bell turret gable, wooden eaves. West bell turret, nave and rectangular chancel. C17 nave with high plinth and west door with pointed, moulded head and plank door. Rectangular window above with inner pointed, blocked opening. Narrow band above. Bell turret with single round headed opening, the upper parts and gable late C19. North side of nave with small opening set high up to west with segmental head and brick air-vent inserted, probably intended to illuminate interior stairs to west gallery. Large window to east with segmental head, rectangular, moulded surround and rectangular moulded hood mould. Early C18 chancel with high plinth and single, large, pointed north window. East end with flat band rising above blind, oval window. Late C19 buttress rising up centre of east front. South side of chancel with single, large, pointed window. South side of nave with large C18 window with segmental head, rectangular moulded surround and rectangular moulded hood mould. Part of blocked brick arch of blocked C17 south doorway immediately to left with small opening set high up to west with segmental head and brick air-vent inserted. Interior stripped of contents with sparse fragments of panelling and west gallery. Moulded stone plinth for altar. Niche with pointed head in north wall of nave. Niche with segmental head in south wall of nave.2 C17 gravestones in nave floor. C17 and C18 tie beam roofs. Listing NGR: TF1162677501
