Full Description

A small cropmark complex identified on aerial photographs, taken in 1979, by Paul Everson. The complex comprises ditched field boundaries, small irregular-shaped enclosures with some traces of internal features including pits, part of a possible ring ditch with central pit and a short stretch of an unusually broad-ditched linear feature. {1} A linear boundary feature was identified during the construction of a British Gas pipeline, at SK 94967 96256, but no dating evidence was recovered. {2}{3} Potential archaeological remains were detected within the cropmark site in May 2013, during a magnetometry survey undertaken to inform the porposed development of a wind farm, to the immediate north-west of Grayingham Grange. Although the majority of the recorded magnetic anomalies were thought to relate to natural geological activity or modern disturbance, several possible pit and linear features of unknown date or function were identified. {4}
